47 Dead in Ecuador School Bus Accident
September 27th 2006

In all, 47 people were killed over the weekend when the bus reportedly flipped over while travelling along a winding mountain road near Quito. Among those killed were 17 children.
The accident took place Sunday between the towns of Pifo and Papallacta, around 60 km from the country’s capital.
Rescuers recovered 44 bodies at the accident site, said Luis Arias, an emergency services doctor. Another three people died after being taken to a clinic.
The bus was carrying 52 people when the incident occurred. Five children who survived are in a critical condition.
The bus was on its way back to Quito after a trip to Papallacta a region known for its thermal waters.
Deadly crashes are common on mountain roads in the Andes due to blind curves, poorly maintained vehicles and recklessness. On March 24, a passenger bus tumbled 1,000 feet off a jungle mountain road in Ecuador, killing 17 people and injuring 16.

The Galapagos Islands, just to the west of Ecuador, and right on the equator, are great places to go on a hot sunny day while exploring Ecuador. On the islands there are tons of places to go and sites to see. These wonderful islands are home to many rare, and spectacular plants and animals in the world. If you think you have to take a trip to Brazil to see the Amazon Rain Forrest , think again! Even though Ecuador’s share of the Amazon Rain Forrest is 2% of the forests size, that 2% is also home to one third of the whole rain forests population. Taking a trip through the rain forest is something you must do!

You’re probably thinking that the capital city of Ecuador, Quito, is just a normal modern city. On the one part, you’d be correct. However, the great thing about Quito is that it is so much more than this. In Quito, you’ll have the chance to meet traditionally Quichua-speaking women shopping in their traditional clothes and going about their daily lives as they would anywhere else in the country. This is very extraordinary because anywhere else in the world you would not be able to experience something so interesting and perhaps very educational.

Ecuador is a tourists’ paradise. If you’re thinking of taking a trip somewhere, but don’t know where exactly, well we have it covered for you. Come and visit the marvellous country of Ecuador.
